What we know nowadays as GDM, started as a company growing grain in Chacabuco, Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1982. The intention was to grow grain, especially soybean, in rented fields. Soon, Gerardo Bartolomé and Cesar Belloso realized it was necessary to develop soybean varieties that better adapted to Argentina’s humid Pampas. Thus, their objective changed: they wanted to become a nursery. This is how the Company born in 1982 consolidated four years later under the name DON MARIO SEMILLAS.
The project started as a family and friends initiative, and even nowadays in plain growth and globalization, it keeps the same imprint: a group of curious, innovative people. They have always kept the focus on obtaining and developing soybean and other grains such as wheat and maize that can be grown in agricultural environments worldwide. At present, DONMARIO is THE brand, the emblem of the Group. GDM means Grupo Don Mario, and it originated from the need to create an umbrella brand for all the companies and brands acting together. It takes the name “Don Mario” because it is the name that started it.
